Melbourne Guitar Quartet – Album Launch Tonight!

Melbourne Guitar Quartet – comprising Ben Dix, Tonie Field, Jeremy Tottenham and Peter Karutz – are launching their third album tonight with a recital at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

This promises to be an evening of the very highest standard of guitar playing and the most delicious music, featuring a compilation of Spanish and French original and arranged music transformed for guitar family from elsewhere in the classical oeuvre. Works featured on the album and played for us this evening will be Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess as well as works by Albeniz and Granados.

Note I say guitar family – the guys don’t just play four standard guitars. Nope, they really explore the different sounds and textures that four different kinds of classical guitar can make together, performing on classical bass, baritone, standard, treble and octave guitars. It’s really quite a special sound and one that you shouldn’t miss this evening!

  1. Sadly, I don’t live where I could attend, but those guys sound really good. I love the way you can create some really beautiful sounds with classical guitars. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Such incredible playing! It’s hard not to watch a video like that and want to go play my nylon string guitar for hours!
